His teaching philosophy is rooted in a firm conviction that the natural curiosity and creativity of children are the essential elements of real learning. He believes that children possess a tremendous capacity for discovering their own potential and what is real about their world when they have an environment of guided yet open ended opportunities to discover new things. He also believes that children learn best through doing and learn less well when “talked at”. He asserts that dynamic teaching and self-directed learning will see big results. As a music educator he stresses performance skills, conscientious attendance to detail and fun in every aspect of learning the applied skills of instrument playing. He sees creating beauty to share with others as the point of musicianship.
